Radio City or SF?

Photobucket

The answer is both.

This is Radio City, the former NBC radio station
at 420 Taylor Street San Francisco (1942).
Its an ocean liner of a building, all modernism and International Style.
Even though it is now a parking garage, it is still a gorgeous architectural specimen.

Unfortunately, I can find very little information on it.
There is a very detailed posting on a radio history blog.

The tiled mural was designed by CJ Fitzgerald.
Here's a link to a color photo.

I worked there in the mid-80s. It housed a broadcasting school and an indie TV station (was it UHF 44?). In those days is was run down and ugly, spare, smelly.

Love you. Never here enough, been busy the past few weeks, but glad to visit always. No other site gives me so much pleasure.

Well, I haven't been here as often as I'd like to be either. Thanks for continuing to visit.

I can imagine it to be run-down and smelly, the way people treat parking lots in this city. That lobby is just as gorgeous as ever however.
