The Long Voyage Home 1940
directed by John Ford
cinematography by Gregg Toland

What better way to highlight the deep focus photography than elongated angles pointing into the frame.

WOW.
These stills are amazing.

Yeah, that Gregg Toland, eh? I'd snap him up just like Orson Welles did.

So good! Toland's photography in LONG VOYAGE HOME may be my favorite of his work.

I'm inclined to agree with you.

These are great! Beautiful, really.

It's not only gorgeously filmed, its not a bad film. It's about the only John Ford I could get my heart into.

Fantastically beautiful, so well chosen. Thanks for posting these. And yes, I too thought it was a very good movie, wonderfully shot by Ford and with the best Thomas Mitchell performance I have seen. Even John Wayne essaying a Swedish accent couldn't ruin it.

Thank you! Not only was the cinematography jaw-dropping, watching a young and very handsome John Wayne was a real treat. It took me half to movie to realize he was supposed to be speaking with an accent.
