That lighting through the fog is fantastic!
It makes me nostalgic for the fog that has disappeared lately from San Francisco
(replaced by seemingly endless rain - a lot less romantic.)

This is shot entirely on sets, which is what this city looks like
at the height of the foggy season.

Now I want to watch DOA again.

Moontide (1942)
directed by Archie Mayo (and some Fritz Lang)
cinematography by Charles Clark
and Lucien Ballard

Looking forward to the Von Sternberg 3-film set being released by Criterion in August. I mention this because of the three I've yet to see THE DOCKS OF NEW YORK, which I've read had some outstanding fog-drenched cinematography. Got to see MOONTIDE when it was first released on disc, some great cinematography in it as well. Recognized Ida in the doorway right off the bat.

Figures you'd recognize the shot immediately!
I've been waiting a long time too, to see Docks of New York. It's good to know it's due out soon. I'm waiting anxiously for Night Train to Munich as well.
